Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress enriched with its historical and archaeological significance, dominated by a massive column of rock around 180 meters(590 ft) high. This massive rock was converted into a fortress during the reign of King Kashyapa in 477 AD and is most famous for the mysteries it left unsaid of how civilization back then created this marvel. After the king’s death the capital and the royal palace were abandoned and it was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century and today Sigiriya is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site and acts as one of the best-preserved examples of ancient urban planning.
